Teaching experience
I have always been passionate about English Literature, and I am very keen to pass on my enthusiasm to students. Having achieved a grade 9 in my GCSE with the highest overall mark in my year group, along with an A at A level, I have plenty of effective studying tips and crucial advice to give to any student sitting their exams. I am very happy to offer my patience and guidance while tailoring each session to working on the specific concerns of the student at a pace which is right for them. I have taught a vast range of ages, including primary school students, mature students learning English as a foreign language, and secondary school students sitting their GCSEs, having just finished with this year's GCSE cohort.
To deliver the most effective English lessons, I prepare plenty of materials in advance, tailored to the pupils' learning style and their specific needs, always checking the exam specification to ensure my materials are up to date. In order to elevate the pupil's learning, I feel that passing on my enthusiasm for Literature and Language is essential, along with practising past paper exam questions to identify areas of weakness and praising the pupil for their strengths. This encouragement and positive reinforcement can be so motivating, and I love to watch my pupils engage with my feedback and watch their work improve each lesson as a result. To start off, I like to ensure that each student has a firm understanding of language techniques, the context of the play novel they are studying, and key interpretations that will facilitate them in attaining the top grades. Of course, spelling, punctuation, and grammar are something I also like to watch out for to ensure that the pupil has a solid grasp to achieve technical accuracy points.
After the pupil has understood this, I have a large range of past paper questions and top-level exemplar answers. I have also worked with students who have special educational needs, including autism, dyslexia and memory processing disorder, adapting my teaching style to suit their learning preferences using clear structure, visual aids and plenty of encouragement to build confidence and understanding.
