Welcome from Kirsten
I believe the most conducive learning environment is where both teacher and student are at ease and open to new information. Learning should not feel like a chore, and I design sessions to reflect this while ensuring learning objectives are met.

I began teaching trumpet in 2018 after gaining a classical joint diploma in trumpet and flugelhorn, and continued this in my final years of secondary school, while also playing in a professional small band that played for school musicals/ performances. Throughout my later years in secondary school (GCSE and A level years) I was one of the senior tutors, meaning helping younger years and our affiliate primary school in their academic learning, which encompassed all subjects and specific reading, writing and phonics for KS1 & 2. I began academic tutoring full time with the closure of schools in March 2020, working mostly with primary school children (KS2), however this was also extended to GCSE English and Drama students. Since studying at Kings College London, I have continued to tutor on an ad hoc basis over zoom. I really enjoy teaching, and thus far have had successful results across a variety of ages, with one of my students obtaining a grade 8 in their English Literature GCSE.

My Children (twins aged 7) moved to England in the January of 2020 with very little English. As a result of the lockdown, their learning was very impacted and their English was lost as they were not immersed or speaking it regularly like they would at school (we speak in Cantonese around the house). I hired Kirsten multiple times a week, and in the space of 9 months, they were reading level 5 books, writing short stories with a good understanding of sentences and how to spell on their own, as well as speaking with near fluency. With her fun teaching style they caught up on a years worth of schooling and were able to progress into year 3 with the rest of their class (it was thought they would need to repeat year 2), a huge achievement!
